ministry to 14-17s future for the present
“ The LORD has done great things for us ; we are glad .” Psalm 126:3 ESV
We are now in the second month of the year , and possibly some of your resolutions are still intact . For some you ’ re still putting together your final goals of the year . Whether you have written your resolutions or goals for the year or not , I want to encourage you to ask God for a Spiritual Vision . What is a Spiritual Vision ? A vision that is inspired by the Holy Spirit .
The short scripture used above was a story Jesus shared about the afterlife . Lazarus was a poor man who had a faith in God , and the rich man who had no faith in God ; their final destinations were completely different . When you look at your life , what or whom are you living for ? Before you can answer this question , ask yourself ‘ Is my faith in God ( salvation ) or in something else ?’ If you can answer this , you will be able to answer the first question .
If your faith is in God , one thing you will find out is that your home is with him ( heaven ) and not on earth . Another thing you will discover is that God has a plan for your life ( Jeremiah 29:11 ). You may ask , “ What is it ?” Our purpose on earth is to know God and make him known ( John 17:3 & 1 John 17:25-26 ). This is the fundamental truth of our existence on earth , through this we discover all the layers to do with the Christian life .
As a young person you may be thinking or working towards your future but what is your motivation based on ? Is it set on getting a good job , making tons of money and enjoying life or set on getting a good job , influence your area of speciality and be a blessing to others ? Understand this , you can be blessed financially and successful in your job but also live for a higher purpose and make a massive difference for God that can have a lasting effect than wealth and complacency will . Present misfortune or pleasures may tempt us to set our future in a certain direction for right or wrong reasons – but if the reasons are in contradiction to our purpose are they still good ?
As you work towards your future and plan your goals , why not ask the Holy Spirit to give you a fresh vision for your life ? Remember , God is your help , don ’ t live for the present but live for the future . Jesus lived for the joy that he would receive in the future . Let your life be set for the audience of one – God and when you reach home you can say ‘ I did all that I knew to do with what I had ’.
In next month ’ s Revival Times we will be looking at how to gain and maintain ‘ Spiritual Vision ’ as you live for the future in the present .

The rich man reached the end of his life and realised something that many may not pay attention to – life after death . He probably based his life on his riches without God in mind but when he reached the end they remained here on earth . Lazarus – which means “ God is my help ” was a poor man but he had his faith in God , though he lived a difficult life in the present , his future was much better .
