Parenting The Bible says , “ Train up a child in the way he should go , even when he is old he will not depart from it ” ( Proverbs 22:6 ESV ).
The Scripture instructs us to immerse ourselves in the development of our children . It is about every activity of the child . The whole wellbeing and this includes his or her education . Chuck Swindoll , the Bible teacher , exhorts parents to observe the bent of children and shape them in that direction . It is about observing the child ’ s interest and coming alongside him or her as a parent to support and encourage along the way .
As Christian parents , we have a major role to play in our children ’ s education both in the school and at home . Our role as parents is to work in cooperation with the school community to enhance the child ’ s development . Here are some of the ways we can help :
• School visits
• Academic reference days
• Parents ’ day
• Open days
• Sports days
• Day trips
These are some of the small things that we , as parents and guardians , can do to build a bridge between school and home . At the same time , it helps to build the child ’ s confidence – my parent is interested in my progress at school .
The seminar will be a ‘ hands on ’ approach with current studies , presented via DVD to generate interaction . There will also be experienced and professional personnel to lead discussions . We will also be looking at how to :
• Support
• Encourage
• Reward
• Recognise
• Praise
Some of these little things will encourage young people at home to spend time studying and do their homework . We hope that at the end of the seminar , parents will be equipped to have a keen interest in their children ’ s education .
Students ’ seminar We hope to provide a teacher to support all the essential key subjects of the curriculum , such as English , maths and science , for example . Finally , we wish to invite you all to attend this seminar and appreciate the difference that this type of support can afford . We hope to start a process of further engagement on the part of both parents and students . ❖
If you are interested in attending the Seminar on Saturday 11th February at KT Summit House from 9.30am – 1pm then please fill out a Tackling the Giants flyer available from KT reception or email giants @ kt . org and we will send you further information .
