Abraham was also a great intercessor. When you
know how to flow with revelation, intercession is
automatic. You wait upon God for an understanding
of his will, and then you line up with it, praying
according to his will. Many times Christians are lazy
in their praying. They say to God, ‘If it be your will’,
without ever reading his word and discovering
what his will might be.
Often we can discern the will of God and then
pray accordingly, not in an arrogant but in a prophetic
way. That’s the link between prophetic revelation
and intercession.
So Abraham’s life reveals the link between prophecy,
intercession and healing. God told Abimelech that
Abraham was a prophet who would pray for him,
and he would be healed.
When we pray for healing God will do what he
wants, how he wants to do it. But we are always
open, always listening for what he wants to do in
each person’s life. And when we receive a revelation
and pray accordingly, we are cooperating with the
Holy Spirit. When Abraham the prophet prayed
in line with the will of God, it happened! But
God’s purpose was greater than the healing of
Abimelech. It was the furthering of his covenant
promise – and all the gifts of the Spirit that we
find exhibited in Old Testament times and today
are about God’s covenant purposes.
As we pray, God is working out his great plan
– strengthening, establishing his kingdom in our
lives so that his glory can be revealed through
us. And as this happens, we learn one of the
greatest principles of moving in spiritual
gifts – total dependence on God.
God enables those whom he calls, so we can
depend on his power to fulfil our calling. Every
manifestation of the Holy Spirit is a gift of grace.
We don’t own them and we don’t deserve them.
God can use us in line with his greater purpose
of manifesting his kingdom.
As with Abraham, we see that G od is in control
of all of things. That is why we always humbly ask
for God to show us his will, because we are ready
to do what he has called us to do! ❖

then pray accordingly, not in an arrogant but
in a prophetic way. That’s the link between
