students the opportunity to practise different phonemes on holiday cards. The students
can then be asked to create their own holiday cards using the words they have practiced.
Towards more independent use of the language and of the resources available, we
can guide our students to use a tool created by Cambridge English – Write&Improve
(https://writeandimprove.com/) – where they can select a task and get instant feedback
including the CEFR level of their writing and suggestions for improvement.
Collaboration – interactive tasks
A lot of educators agree that collaboration is THE 21 st century skill. In a blog post on
www.edutopia.org Adam Bellow talks about a ‘much more organic collaboration’ than
simple group work in the classroom. He argues that ‘by allowing students to connect
online, you'll give them access to millions of other people who can help them and/or
benefit from their work.’ He offers a list of free collaboration tools among which Google
Drive, which enables students to work together and make changes in the same document,
form, presentation or drawing. One platform that I found useful is Coggle (www.coggle.it)
which is a collaborative mind-mapping tool that allows you to invite people to view but also
edit your work.
