We form the passive with the verb to be and the past participle. The agent is included when it is a specific or important person or when it is essential to the meaning of the sentence. The agent is introduced with “by”. We use with to introduce an agent when the agent uses an instrument, material or ingredient. Controlled practice: Teacher explains the task: Students are going to use the prompts to make passive sentences, as in the example. Students do the task. Check their answers. Answer key: Were you invited to ill’s birthday party? Your bill is being prepared now. Has the new CCTV camera been installed yet? I visited the website last week, and it has not been updated for months. Our identity cards are being checked by the security guards. Practice and Production: Teacher puts students into groups of four. Teacher gives two persons in each group a sheet of paper with a short Romanian text from Constantin Noica’s “Jurnal de Idei”. The students must write an English translation for that text underneath it. The students then fold the paper so that only the translated sentences are visible and pass it to the other two students in the group. Those students must write the text in Romanian again. At the end, the group unfolds the paper and compares the original and the final version. 76 Material Time Students - Photo/ Teacher card 5’ Teacher- Students 15’ Pair work Students- Teacher Teacher- Students Text- book Ex.13, p.88.
