Similarly, when teaching icons of various English-speaking countries, videos are a very good way of getting the students acquainted with specific landmarks for different cultures. Not only videos, but a full movie can prove to be useful in order to pinpoint important moments in the history of The United States of America. I have successfully used so far The Great Gatsby to give students an insight into The Roaring 20s/The Jazz Age in America and Hidden Figures to inspire discussions and analysis of segregated America in 1960 and John Glenn’s first space travel. The above represent a selection of videos I have used. It is a short list of the most efficient ones, but examples abound, and, fortunately more can be found online if needed. 5. Conclusion Videos are a great resource to use in class in order to make it more motivating and memorable. By using a video alongside the traditional teaching methods one can help instil a better understanding of a subject into more of the students.
