Li Xiuyuan, College of Humanities, Jilin University & Confucius Institute Sibiu
Abstract:
In exercises and examinations of Chinese writing, the students of Chinese major at “Lucian Blaga” University have
common errors in the punctuation mark, lexical usage, grammar and coherence. These errors are related to
Chinese language teaching, teaching materials, and the influences of negative transfer of mother tongue.
Key words: Chinese writing, error, punctuation, lexical usage, grammar, coherence.
For most of the Romanian students, among the four Chinese language skills of listening,
speaking, reading, and writing, the writing is the most difficult one to master, and the weakest
one as well. In exercises and examinations of Chinese writing, the students of Chinese major
at “Lucian Blaga” University have common errors in the punctuation mark, lexical usage,
grammar and coherence.
1 Errors in the punctuation mark
For the written language of modern Chinese, the punctuation mark is an indispensable tool. It
can help people express their thoughts and feelings and understand the written language.
Romanian students often have three errors in the punctuation mark when they write
compositions in Chinese:
One is that the punctuation mark is left out, for example:
那时我突然想到我妈妈的话孩子这是你一辈子的机会你不要放弃!
“At that time I suddenly thought of my mother's words this is your chance of a lifetime!”
In this sentence, there are five places where the punctuation mark is not used:
那时我突然想到我妈妈的话(,)(“)孩子(,)这是你一辈子的机会(,)你不要放弃!(”)
The second one is that the punctuation mark is used improperly, for example:
“I found that I can do many interesting things in Beijing Language and Culture University, such
as: playing volleyball, tennis, basketball, table tennis, swimming and so on.’
In the above example, “:” should be removed.
The third one is spelling errors, they often spell “.”as“。”, for example:
“Living in China, I feel very different from Romania, here the pace of life is fast. Chinese is very
warm, I also dance with some aunts in the park. I love China culture, have visited some scenic
spots and historic sites, such as the Confucian Temple, the Summer Palace, Tiananmen, the
Great Wall. Really, I feel very shocked.”
2 Errors in lexical usage
One of errors in lexical usage is to coin words, for example:
在我小的时,我爸爸是军官。
“When I was young, my father was an officer.”
