INTEREST TEACHING IN TEACHING CHINESE
AS A SECOND/FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Abstract:
Teaching Chinese as a Second Language also known as teaching Chinese as a foreign language, refers to the
language teaching to the non-native Chinese language speakers. Teaching Chinese as a foreign language in
Primary school is a crucial stage in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. Albert Einstein said: "interest is
the best teacher". When students are interested in the things, they have a desire for knowledge. Therefore, it is
especially important to stimulate the interest and enthusiasm of primary school students in Chinese language
learning. In order to strengthen the students' desire, we need to strengthen the interest teaching. So the study of
interesting teaching method in Chinese teaching is also very important.

Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, also known as teaching Chinese as a foreign
language, refers to the language teaching to the non-native Chinese language speakers.
Teaching Chinese as a foreign language in Primary school is a crucial stage in the teaching of
Chinese as a foreign language. Albert Einstein said: "interest is the best teacher". When
students are interested in the things, they have a desire for knowledge. Therefore, it is
especially important to stimulate the interest and enthusiasm of primary school students in
Chinese language learning. In order to strengthen the students' desire, we need to strengthen
the interest teaching. So the study of interesting teaching method in Chinese teaching is also
very important.
In this paper I will share some of my experience of interest teaching methods by taking
Școala Regele Ferdinand in Sibiu and Liceul Făgăraș as an example. Școala Regele
Ferdinand is one of the earliest schools in Sibiu which opened the Chinese classes. Now there
are 2 Chinese classes in Școala Regele Ferdinand and 60 students are learning Chinese.
Interesting Game method:
1. Number hug
Students can learn knowledge while playing games. For example, when they learn Chinese
numbers(1-9), teacher can let the students stand in a circle, and say a number, the students
should get together quickly according to the order. Like if the teacher says “五”(five), five
students should quickly stand together and hug each other. The students who don’t find the
partner will lose the game.
2. fruit squatting:

苹果(Apple),梨(pear), 葡萄(grape)and so on.
Students stand in a circle, each person takes a fruit card, the teacher began to
read“香蕉蹲,香蕉蹲,香蕉蹲完苹果蹲(banana squat, banana squat, after that apple squat”,
the student who takes the “apple card” should immediately say apple squat, apple squat, after
that XX squat…
This type of game can be used for a class of words, such as fruit, colour, occupation, food and
so on. It is useful to help students review the words that they have learned.
Chinese Song method:
After learning the new words, teacher can teach students a song with the words they have
learned. For example, in the first Chinese class, the students will learn "你好hello", "谢谢Thank
