HE IMPORTANCE OF SPEAKING ENGLISH
WHEN STUDYING ANYACADEMIC PROGRAM.
Have you ever thought English is something
we don’t need in a country like Colombia?
Didn’t you pay attention to the English clas-
ses at school because they were “very boring”?
Well, I have bad news for you. These days English is
spoken all over the world, so learning this foreign lan-
guage is something you will probably need even in a
country like Colombia. In case you dont know it, most
academic programs require you to speak at least basic
English for you to graduate. But apart from the fact that
it’s a requirement for your graduation, you will need
English when carrying out any research Project at uni-
versity. Most academic papers and researches are wri-
tten in English. Some of them aren’t written in English
but all of them use it in the abstract or the key words.
So, if you are thinking about going to University,
you’d better start studying English. Even if you are
planning to continue with your studies at Sena, you
will require English to graduate. In case you don’t
know it, most manuals you are required to read
when studying a technician career at Sena, are wri
tten in English. So, my suggestion is to stop thinking about
English as a punishment and start thinking about it as a tool
that will allow you to understand better and know more.
I know sometimes school classes might be very boring. I
also know that because of the number of students, classes
are not as communicative as we wish, but give your best.
Try to learn as much English as you can, in the classroom,
through movies, videogames, apps, chatting with people
abroad, commit to learn English and you will later see
the several advantages this language brings to your life.
