Os bisfosfonatos são utilizados no tratamento da osteoporose na mulher pós-menopáusica . O uso de bisfosfonatos em fraturas de stress com bons resultados foi documentado num caso de uma jogadora de basquetebol com fratura de stress da tíbia 20 . Contudo , em estudos com modelos animais , os bisfosfonatos foram relacionados com um efeito teratogénico , e pelo facto de permanecerem no osso muito tempo depois da sua administração , o seu uso em mulheres pré- -menopáusicas deva ser ponderado .
O retorno à atividade deve ser gradual e incluir uma importante componente de treino de flexibilidade .
