where he began his life as a specialist in orthopedics , then worked on the football club Os Belenenses , and then on national teams , never forgetting Coimbra and the team Académica , of which he was an associate . Some of the players of this association , such as the Dr Mário Torres , Rocha or later , after passing through the AAC and already graduated , Rui Rodrigues ( Pharmacy ), Artur Jorge ( Germanic , this also as athlete of the Belenenses ) had his dedication and friendship while international players . He dedicated this friendship to so many former students of Coimbra , with whom he kept tertulias in Lisbon and also to the doctors of the AAC with whom he maintained contacts , such as Francisco Soares , José Barros and myself . Augusto Camacho Vieira was a unique name in the history of sports traumatology in Portugal . Ti Augusto for some ( friends ), Camacho for the tertulia and fadistagem Coimbrã , Doc for his athletes and Dr . Camacho for the endless patients he treated , he was for everyone , and in the varied strands of his life , a visionary , a passionate and a fearless . The anatomical structures and the sports injuries have been the same for 60 years ago when Dr . Camacho started treating athletes . There was no MRI , no arthroscopy , no specific rehabilitation guidelines , no definite criteria for return to sport .... but there was knowledge , there was semiology , there was clinical sense and ... there were hands which , like Dr . Camacho ’ s , dared to follow treatment methods , obscure at that time , but helped many athletes to return to sports and pursue their careers . He is an eternal football doctor , it was to me a pride ( and I know that for him too ) to replace him as the orthopedist of the national football team and I will never forget his words “ Only you can replace me , I ’ m happy ”. It was not easy , we talked a lot about the task and continued to talk ... already with the task . Other times , other ethics , other values ! I keep the image of being with me , that he entered for the last time in an operating room to help me . Be well Ti Camacho in that place in the sky where the guitars sing ... and the men of good will gather .

His voice as singer of Coimbra , besides the delight of listening to him , will remain for history of the Academy of Coimbra . He captivated everyone ! When I think of Dr . Camacho Vieira I remember , above all , a man of integrity , honest and competent , someone who has always demonstrated , in his personal life , as in the practice of his profession , an education and an extreme dedication , having marked , and in what way , a generation of orthopedic doctors ! I have had the privilege of living with Dr . Camacho in the great family that is the national football team , where , through all his knowledge and behavior , he became an important element in all the achieved successes . His wisdom and his very characteristic and peculiar way of touching our injuries made the radiological exams into a mere formality that only confirmed the diagnosis that the doctor had previously made . All the lesions we had were explained with great clarity and simplicity , so that we could reassure ourselves even in the most serious ills . When Dr . Camacho retired from the national teams we all missed him , missing , which is redoubled at this point by the fact that the doctor is no longer physically among us . However , I know that , spiritually , Dr . Camacho will always be around , especially , of all those who are or wish to become orthopedic surgeons of excellence . In the name of my generation and of all the generations football players before mine who had the happiness to feel the Dr . Camacho ’ s hands , I show our eternal gratitude . Thank you very much Dr .
