The 5 th
Conference of
Saúde Atlântica
state in Porto
the needed
debate between
Public Health
and Sports
Medicine
O November the 30 th and December
the 1 st of 2018, in Porto, it was the
The 5 th Conference of Saúde Atlân-
tica promoted by Saúde Atlântica –
Clínica do Dragão. The doctors from
different medical specialties and the
physiotherapists debated the last
evidences for prevention of injuries
on the physical activity practitioners
and sportsmen and the good prac-
tice on the conservative and surgical
treatment of the musculoskeletal
injuries, as the nutritionists clarified
the nutritional security and the ade-
quacy for health and performance
on the society, special populations
and/or athletes. The speakers, either
Portuguese or foreigners, congratu-
lated by the bridges created among
the different sciences, professionals
and students. Besides de develop-
ment of knowledge and compe-
tences promoted by the high scien-
tific level of the discussion, there
was, as one of the main legacies of
the scientific meeting, the belief that
the interdisciplinary translation of
knowledge, and for the society, ben-
efits the professional exercise, the
economy and, above all, health and
well-being of everybody.
The Foundation Dr. Cupertino de
Miranda welcomed more than 600
registered persons in this Confe-
rence, being more than half outside
the district of Porto. The success of
this initiative proved surprising on
year where the role of physical
activity, sports and nutrition for
health, human development and
social integration, along with the
theme of sports injuries – the theme
which Clínica do Dragão – Espre-
gueira-Mendes Sports Centre – FIFA
Medical Centre of Excellence is very
well known, with the greatest
experience and history, and it is also
the official center of ISAKOS, ESSKA
and ICRS. “The conference with
integration of nutrition, physical
activity and sports rehabilitation
reached subjects a bit aside of our
main activity, mas extraordinary
important”, it was referred by Prof.
Doctor João Espregueira-Mendes.

Saúde Atlântica – Clínica do
Dragão, in partnership with the
Portuguese Foundation of Cardiol-
