A biologist from the University of Yucatán , Manuel Palomo has lived in Quintana Roo for a few years , but has developed a strong commitment to sustainable development . Coming from a family of engineers , Manuel always showed a greater affinity towards environmental research ; reason for which he decided to study Biology , despite the fact that it was not a well-known degree in Yucatan . “ From the beginning it has been a challenge , but the commitment and passion that working for the protection of the environment generates in you is stronger than order to keep records and verify that commitments to care for the environment are being met . “ I want to protect the environment , I want to be part of this project , which has an objective and a sustainable commitment , but at the same time have the tools to carry it out , both administrative and social ”, he explains . What Manuel likes the most is being able to have contact with nature , during a large part of his working day and in the administrative area , being able to carry out real compliance , not corrective , but preventive . “ Compared to other places , we don ' t say , ' Let ' s do it and anything ”, he affirms . Manuel has extensive experience in consulting , specifically in the review of the necessary documentation for environmental services procedures , in his place of origin ; after which , he migrated to Quintana Roo and has been working for Mayakoba ever since . " What caught my attention ( from Mayakoba ) was the commitment it has with the environment , beyond what it is , a brand that promotes itself as sustainable , you realize that this commitment is real ," he says . . As an environmental supervisor , a large part of Manuel ' s role is to monitor compliance with environmental commitments , beyond the requirements of the authorities , in order to promote care for the environment . Likewise , he monitors that the conditions of the project are met , both in the environmental and social spheres . He also conducts environmental dissemination talks for the maintenance or service team ; in addition to tours , to carry out monitoring of water , vegetation , fauna , etc ., in then we ' ll fix it '; Rather , the best option is considered before carrying it out , the options are reviewed and the actions that have the least environmental impact are decided together , ” he affirms . Manuel recognizes that a large part of what has been achieved has been thanks to the commitment of the people , both from the Sustainability team and from all the personnel working on the project . Manuel ' s main objective is to be able to transmit to all the people who make up Ciudad Mayakoba , the importance of what the Sustainability team does , which is not alien to any of its areas , but rather they are all related . “ My objectives for the projects , which are developed within Ciudad Mayakoba , is that they follow this same line ; In other words , they begin to understand that , although each project is individual , they are part of this master plan , not simply in legal terms or in compliance with what the authority demands , but in the commitment to create sustainable development ”, he affirms .
