Plane crashes in Indonesia and kills eCitizen of the country

The Indonesian authorities said they did not expect to find survivors after the accident on Monday with the low-cost airline Lion Air.

"We need to find the main wreckage. I predict there will be no survivors based on body parts found so far," said Bambang Suryo Aji, the agency's chief operating officer, according to Reuters.

With 189 people on board, Lion's plane crashed into the Java Sea just minutes after taking off from Jakarta airport.

The plane took off from Jakarta airport at 6:20 am local time (20:20 Sunday in Brasília) towards Pangkal Pinang, on the island of Bangka.

A few minutes later, the plane had disappeared from the radar.

The aircraft had reported technical problems on its penultimate flight but according to the airline were resolved according to the recommended procedures
