If the eye is white with a raised point at the centre of the eye , it is an indication that it is an eye infection that has been missed before ( during daily observation ) and has now become an advanced case of infection . At the raised point , the eye bulb can become weakened and it can even cause the eye to burst .
Effective and continuous treatment must be applied on a daily basis to save the eye . Treatment at this late stage will cause prolonged healing to take place over a number of days or even weeks . Only after full healing will the eye become clear again , if it was not damaged too severely .
The app provides further information ( i buttons ) which will teach the user about the importance and significance of the specific signs of disease observed , and provide a structure in order to get effective veterinary assistance . The user will be able to provide the veterinarian with the right information in order to get guidance or arrange a farm visit if needed . Currently the system is only intended as a tool to assist and train livestock handlers to spot and identify signs of illness in livestock . The DOC app is being developed further to enable the user to record the signs of disease observed . For the farmer ’ s own records , or to get veterinary professional support .
The Daily Observation Card is now available in a cell phone application for android phones and can be downloaded FOR FREE from the Play Store by searching for : Daily Observation Card .
Veterinarians that already have a user name and password for disease reporting on Veterinarian Network can download the app from Play Store and use the same user name and password .
Veterinarians that are not registered on Veterinarian Network can download the app from Play Store and need to use the word AFRIVET as promotional code to register . The user will then receive an e-mail to confirm the registration before the DOC app can be used to learn the methodology of structured daily observation .
The DOC app is freely available to all your clients ( livestock farmers ) in South Africa . It is a valuable tool in field use whenever a specific sign ( s ) of disease is observed . To register your clients to use the app contact Frikkie Beukes at cell 082 909 5996 or e-mail beukesfrikkie @ gmail . com
