Just as Fall is the perfect time to spend hiking and lounging around the fire pit , it ’ s also a great time to change up our decor and get ready for the cooler temperatures to come , and as I like to do , bring the outdoors in . Here are a few tips to tingle your fall senses and get your home all ready for those times of togetherness that cooler temperatures bring .
USE BASICS — BUT SWITCH IT UP .
I fondly remember growing up watching Martha Stewart decorate with pumpkins , shades of orange and other typical Fall elements . However , you CAN have a posh table that still highlights all of the autumn favorites without looking like a 90s Southern Living article .
Use shades of plum and pomegranate with gold and add branches to for a bit of whimsy . Over a plum-colored runner or fresh tablecloth , gather twigs and branches from the backyard and spray them gold , silver or simply leave them natural .
Layer in different heights of candles . Be careful to not start a fire with your branches . For color , place pomegranates , clementines and / or petite white warty pumpkins around the base . This can also all be done on a layer of fresh greenery whether it ’ s juniper branches or other green bushes from your garden . This centerpiece will be perfect for all those ASC friends-givings and other fall gatherings .
DRESS IN LAYERS .
Just as you ’ d add a cozy sweater and boot socks to your fall wardrobe , it ’ s time to bring back those cozy throws that we love to snuggle under so much , and get out the finer , lush , thick fabrics .

Layer rugs , which is a great way to stretch your dollar when you use a natural fiber jute rug up under a more expensive , but smaller , statement rug . Layer with blankets and pillows to bring out those velvets and wool blends that have been hiding in storage while we suffered through those hot summer months .
Try googling “ arm knitting blanket ” to find step by step tutorials on how to make the most luxurious throw . Use the thickest , coziest wool you can fine , and it ’ s as soft as cashmere ! Not into crafting ? Buy one from Etsy ! I also adore the faux fur throws from Restoration Hardware and West Elm . Keep an eye out , because sometimes you can catch them on sale at the RH outlet .
