Money I Need to Live On
If you have savings, or a working spouse who
can support you both, put zero here. Take nothT
ing out of your business until it can afford to pay
you, and youʼll have an advantage over people
who are trying to make a living right away by
going into business for themselves. Youʼll give
Y
your business a little breathing room. Investing
in a business doesnʼt always have to be in
money or
personal
assets (like
your home
computer
or desk).
Y
You can invest your
time. If you have to earn a living right away, figure out how much you need just to get by. If you
are turning an avocation (part-time income-producing hobby or profession) into a full-time
business, you will know how much you can expect to earn based on the businessʼs track
record. Still, if you plan to rent a storefront, you
will also have new expenses. The principle of
paying yourself what the business can afford to
pay still applies.
PAYROLL
When you start, you should use primarily your
own time to produce and/or sell your products.
Hire only those people who have skills you
donʼt have that will enable you to start a business. Pay market rates – the least you can for
qualified people.
