Speaking on how machine-aided
commerce will impact retailers, Michelle
Evans, head of Digital Consumer
Research at Euromonitor International,
highlighted how the arrival of the
Internet of Things (IoT) era could solve
key problems for retailers as well as
specific countries and companies that are
driving this shift.
Commenting on the implications
for retailers when more purchases are
automated in the IoT era, she said:
“Machine-aided commerce will change
the way that consumers buy goods in
certain categories. When we think about
passive consumption, there are likely
to be some categories that will go way
faster than others such as homecare (with
things like detergents, fabric softeners)
[which] will be the first one to tip.”
