ORIGEN DEL LUGAR: los orígenes de Ilobasco se remontan a finales del año 1,500 en la época precolombina. Según historiadores ésta ciudad fue fundada por tribus lencas y conquistado por guerrero pipiles, durante la época colonial hasta los comienzos de 1900, el nombre a tenido diferentes variaciones. Según los archivos de la iglesia parroquial San Miguel fue conocido como GILOBASCO, HOLIBASCO, XILOBASCO cuyo pronunciamiento fue originado por la fonética castellana
