DE ZALZE GOLF ESTATE
T
he Community Associations Institute
based in the U.S.A was formed
over 40 years ago. At the start of the
formation of ARC, we consulted with
the CAI U.S.A in regards to lessons
learnt and benchmarking international
best practices. At that time we were
introduced to Mike Packard, Dawn
Bauman and Tom Skiba.
Jeff Gilmour attended the annual
conference in New Orleans and
presented a paper together with Mike
Packard on residential communities
in South Africa. This then lead us to
taking nine estate managers to the
next conference in Las Vegas, with the
support of Dr Ivor Blumenthal who at
that time was CEO of Services SETA.
While in Las Vegas, Johan Kruger, the
General Manager at Pecanwood Golf
Estate, set himself the goal of forming
58
a country chapter of the CAI (the first
country chapter of the CAI U.S.A.)
Further discussions and deliberations
with the CAI team lead to Mike Packard
and Tom Skiba delivering the first
qualifications programme to a group of
estate managers in South Africa.
This initiative ultimately lead to 29
estate managers earning the CMCA
professional designation and both Johan
Kruger and Boet Grobler acquiring the
PCAM designation, which is the highest
designation that can be conferred upon
estate managers around the world.
Johan went on to be inducted into the
International Trainer Faculty, licensing
him to provide training to estate managers
around the world. Johan achieved the M
100 Series qualification, and since then,
has already delivered programmes to
a further 100 estatemanagers in South
Africa. All estate managers, staff and
service providers to the residential
community industry are welcome to
join this learning pathway in an effort to
professionalise the role that practitioners
play in the residential community
industry, and in this journal you will find
the breakdown of the programme and
the benefits that your Estate will derive
from it.
