The Association of Residential Communities ( ARC ) has been in existence for over 13 years , with 11 founder members , 10 chapters around the country and over 400 member estates , which are home to over 700,000 residents and represent 65 % of the market in respect of number of homes .
ARC has researched , developed and sourced over 400 best practice resources covering all disciplines of residential community management and leadership .
ARC conducts an annual industry-wide survey in which all possible residential community statistics are made available for estate benchmarking purposes .
ARC has developed strategic partnerships with residential community experts across various areas of residential community management . These are available to ARC members .
The ARC website attracts over 50,000 hits per month , with 2,000 unique visitors . Our two-way communication portal features a regular newsletter ; a calendar of events ; resources , including a Q & A section that is updated with all queries received ; and up-to-the-minute industry alerts on matters directly affecting residential communities .

ARC has established the Residential Communities Council ( RCC ) to deal with imposed legislation , and has developed mechanisms to ensure that the industry is empowered to self-regulate .
ARC has established a ‘ national voice ’, successfully addressing issues such as : the Registrar resolutions to force an HOA not to issue clearance certificates on forced sales ; the SARS issue relating to charging income tax on building penalty income ; and also the speeding matter in the Supreme Court of Appeal ( SCA ). All these applications were successful .
ARC constantly sources legislation affecting residential communities , imparts this to members and runs workshops assisting residential estate managers and directors to alleviate risks attached to this legislation .
The ARC online learning platform allows participants to register for a range of induction programmes including the Director / Trustee Induction Programme .

The ARC helpline and forum , which are available to all members , deal with day-to-day queries and challenges faced by residential estate managers .

ARC runs conferences and workshops on various topics needed to build the capacity of residential estate managers and directors .

Regular ARC chapter meetings offer residential estate managers and board members an opportunity to network with each other , thereby learning from each other on local , regional and national issues .

ARC established the CAISA – the South African chapter of the US-based Community Association Institute – thereby giving all residential estate managers access to an internationally recognised qualification and professional designation .
