Wellbeing

T
HIS YEAR has been
important for looking after
my skin and overall wellbeing.
I was a proud ‘mother of the
groom’ in summer when my elder
son married, but spent several
summer months recovering from
an ankle fracture.
Since the beginning of the year
I have had regular treatments
designed to deep cleanse and
brighten my skin – now into its
fifth decade – in the run up to our
family wedding. I ignore the ‘treat’
bit of ‘treatment’, it’s essential
maintenance and wellbeing.
As the evenings draw in you will
find plenty to sample at Holiday
Inn Winchester’s new ANA Spa,
where manager Chelsea Smith
oversees a team of six senior
therapists working in spacious
and superbly equipped treatment
rooms.
The Spa has a hydrotherapy
pool, Himalayan salt sauna, steam
room, five tranquil and beautifully
designed treatment rooms,
a lounge and luxurious deep
relaxation space, two bubbly foot
spas and the Glamour Eyes space
(Jessica manicures/pedicures, Mii
make up). It’s ideal for a special

occasion, bridal party, overnight
spa break or one-off visit.
My thanks to therapist Chané for
a warm welcome and exceptional
treatments.
Elemis Biotec Radiance
Renew Facial (55 mins, £65)
I was interested to experience
Elemis, a UK brand, for the first
time with this cellular boosting
treatment. Pre-cleanse is part
of today’s ‘cleanse, tone and
moisturise’ mantra and Chané
began with a cream cleanser,
then used a ginseng toner and
superfood facial oil on me,
followed by several anti-ageing
skincare products, four of which
were pro-collagen creams/masks.
Combined with an ultrasonic peel
these stimulate the removal of
impurities and dead skin cells prior
to moisturising (Biotec facials have
clinically proven results).
One hour after – I walked out with
incredibly smooth, glowing and
visibly brighter skin.
One day after – Under-eye area
appeared smoother, no reactions
to any products.
One week on – Still glowing!
Lava Shell Relax, Restore,
Rejuvenate massage (55
minutes, £70)
This is ‘the one’ to book for
autumn and winter. Try this if you
love hot stones – these smooth
porcelain self-heating shells are
far better. They create 10 times
more heat than stones, retain it
for longer and allow continuous
massage strokes, whilst the edges
can be applied to specific pressure
points. They really get ‘in there’
to work and stimulate blood flow.
This is an amazing treatment and
the heat made a real difference to
my injury.
One hour after – Tensions
felt ironed out, skin deeply
moisturised, ankle swelling
reduced (allowing better mobility
for prescribed exercises).
One day after – I felt the effects of
deep tissue massage all over.
One week on – A convert to shells!
