Celebration of
Innovation Awards
The Research Institute’s Impact Accelerator Unit (IAU) were awarded ‘runner-up’
for ‘Innovative Team of the Year’ at the West Midlands Academic Health Science
Network (WMAHSN) 2017 Celebration of Innovation Awards on the 20th July 2017.
Professor Krysia Dziedzic

health care can have access
to high quality, evidence-based
treatments.”
PPIE team member Laura Campbell, who also
works with the IAU and Patient Involvement in
Implementation, attended the event along with Kay
Stevenson, Consultant Physiotherapist and Senior
Knowledge Mobilisation Fellow, and Nicki Evans,
Implementation Project Manager.
Being shortlisted for such an award recognises
the Team’s hard work and dedication to delivering
innovative work to improve local healthcare and patient
outcomes.
The WMAHSN is a network of various health and care
stakeholders, and aims to deliver improved healthcare
outcomes and create economic growth by ensuring
there is strong collaboration and productivity between
academia, industry, health and care, commissioners
and citizens. The WMAHSN established the awards in
2016, with the aim to recognise and celebrate the work
of individuals and organisations in developing better
healthcare and increasing the wealth for local people.
The award was amongst eleven other categories which
celebrate innovations within healthcare. The ‘Innovative
Team of the Year’ award salutes teams which have
made game-changing discoveries, research or
interventions which drive healthcare innovation forward
within the West Midlands.
“This is a fantastic
accolade for
the team, and
recognises all the
hard work that they
along with our key
collaborators and
partners have put in
to accelerating the
uptake of primary
care research.”
The Impact Accelerator Unit’s objective is to create
innovations arising from the RI’s research, that offer
solutions to their stakeholder’s problems and thus
make a difference to the quality of life and care for
those with or at risk of arthritis and musculoskeletal
conditions, as well as associated co-morbidities such
as mental health.
The IAU is led by Professor Krysia Dziedzic, who
commented;
“This is a fantastic accolade for the team, and
recognises all the hard work that they along with our
key collaborators and partners have put in to
accelerating th e uptake of primary care research so
that those receiving or delivering health care can have
access to high quality, evidence-based treatments.
Congratulations to the winners too!”
