20 EVENTS EVENTS 21 THE WEST MIDLANDS ACADEMIC HEALTH SCIENCE NETWORK WMAHSN 2017 Celebration of Innovation Awards The Research Institute’s Impact Accelerator Unit (IAU) were awarded ‘runner-up’ for ‘Innovative Team of the Year’ at the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN) 2017 Celebration of Innovation Awards on the 20th July 2017. Professor Krysia Dziedzic commented; Those receiving or delivering health care can have access to high quality, evidence-based treatments.” PPIE team member Laura Campbell, who also works with the IAU and Patient Involvement in Implementation, attended the event along with Kay Stevenson, Consultant Physiotherapist and Senior Knowledge Mobilisation Fellow, and Nicki Evans, Implementation Project Manager. Being shortlisted for such an award recognises the Team’s hard work and dedication to delivering innovative work to improve local healthcare and patient outcomes. The WMAHSN is a network of various health and care stakeholders, and aims to deliver improved healthcare outcomes and create economic growth by ensuring there is strong collaboration and productivity between academia, industry, health and care, commissioners and citizens. The WMAHSN established the awards in 2016, with the aim to recognise and celebrate the work of individuals and organisations in developing better healthcare and increasing the wealth for local people. The award was amongst eleven other categories which celebrate innovations within healthcare. The ‘Innovative Team of the Year’ award salutes teams which have made game-changing discoveries, research or interventions which drive healthcare innovation forward within the West Midlands. “This is a fantastic accolade for the team, and recognises all the hard work that they along with our key collaborators and partners have put in to accelerating the uptake of primary care research.” The Impact Accelerator Unit’s objective is to create innovations arising from the RI’s research, that offer solutions to their stakeholder’s problems and thus make a difference to the quality of life and care for those with or at risk of arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions, as well as associated co-morbidities such as mental health. The IAU is led by Professor Krysia Dziedzic, who commented; “This is a fantastic accolade for the team, and recognises all the hard work that they along with our key collaborators and partners have put in to accelerating th e uptake of primary care research so that those receiving or delivering health care can have access to high quality, evidence-based treatments.
