from the Team
Welcome to our new look
Research User Group
newsletter! From its creation
in 2006 with just a handful
of patients taking part,
Keele’s Research User
Group (affectionately
known as RUG) has grown
considerably.
Celebrating its milestone 10 year
anniversary in September 2016,
the RUG now has over 100
members, each with their own
experiences of health conditions
such as osteoarthritis, chronic pain,
inflammatory arthritis, mental health
illness and long term conditions.
Patient and Public Involvement and
Engagement at Keele also includes
a dedicated LINK group (Lay
Involvement in Knowledge
Mobilisation) which is tasked with
facilitating the movement of this
research knowledge into practice
working alongside the Impact
Accelerator Unit.
The RUG is an established and
valued part of the world class
Patient and Public Involvement and
Engagement which takes place at
the Research Institute for Primary
Care and Health Sciences, Keele
University and involves patients in
both research and implementation.
Every person who gets involved in
research or implementation at
Keele is an expert, thanks to the
unique experiences, opinions,
networks and advice they bring to
the table. This “Expertise by
Experience” helps to produce high
quality, patient centred, relevant
healthcare research which is then
guided into real life practice by
patients through targeted and
considered implementation.
