12 USER GROUP UPDATE USER GROUP UPDATE The National Institute of Health Research INVOLVE Conference Carol Ingram and Steven Blackburn attended the National Institute of Health Research INVOLVE Conference on the 28th November 2017 in Westminster. It was the 21st anniversary of INVOLVE and celebrated the progress of public involvement in research and considered the opportunities ahead. As part of a team representing the Research Design Service, Carol and Steven held a workshop on the role of lay co-applicants on research grant applications. The workshop followed a similar one that took place at the Research Design Service National Event on the 15th November. Both workshops were great successes and stimulated much conversation on Twitter on the hashtag #laycoapp. As a result of the workshop, it is hoped that new national guidance will be developed on this very important topic. Steven also presented a poster on behalf of PILAR, about its role as the regional network for public involvement in the West Midlands. Other highlights of the INVOLVE conference, included: • The next phase for the launch of the new national standards for public involvement in research were presented “Both workshops were great successes and stimulated much conversation on Twitter on the hashtag #laycoapp.” The Neglected Joints: Feet and Hand Osteoarthritis “The heading says it all” says Robert our PPIE Lay Representative on the MSK Editorial Board. “Often taken for granted and neglected, Bulletin 13 gives an excellent research overview of this less well known but still common and painful area of osteoarthritis in feet.
