Patient Involvement and  Lay Accountability in Research    PILAR C   arol  Rhodes  (PPIE  Adviser)  and  Steven  Blackburn  (PPIE  Research  Associate)  are   members of PILAR (Patient Involvement and Lay Accountability in Research),  which  is  a group that aims to bring together the PPIE leads from around the West Midlands including the CLAHRC, (Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care) AHSN, (Allied Health Service Networks)  CRN,  (Clinical  Research  Networks)  RDS,  (Research  Design  Service)  BRU  (Biomedical Research Units) CRF (Clinical Research Facilities) Public Health and NHS England Citizens Senate. PPIE Team     Charity Swim K rysia Dziedzic and Laura Campbell took part in the Leek Rotary Club Swimathon in  in March, to raise money for Arthritis Research UK and the Haywood Foundation. The goal was to complete as many lengths as possible in one hour. Krysia finished with 60 lengths and Laura 84. The team of five, which included staff at the iPCHS and friends and family, raised almost £1,000,  which will now be split between the two charities. In his role as the RDS  West  Midlands  PPIE Adviser,  Steven  arranges  these  meetings  and  they are chaired by Carol. School for Primary Care Research Showcase Event R  UG member Stephen Dent, accompanied by Adele, attended the School for Primary Care Research's Showcase Event in November.  The event, which was held at the Wellcome Collection, Euston, London, was a ten year celebration meeting and provided an opportunity for the SPCR to reflect on their achievements and try to pick out the key factors in the success.  Presentations were given, showcasing a range of research studies, including studies by Ed Roddy and Jenny Liddle from Keele and during the afternoon a session was held to discuss PPIE in research studies.  PPIE NEWS 4
