Survey respondents were asked whether they were able to pay their accommodation expenses on time and if after they pay these
expenses, they are able to meet their household’s other basic needs. Over half of the 2014 survey respondents (54.3%) indicated
they were always able to pay their accommodation expenses on time, 37.5% were sometimes unable and 8.2% were frequently
unable to pay their accommodation expenses on time. However, while over half of the respondents said they were always able to
pay their accommodation on time, 42% said that after paying these expenses they were frequently unable to meet their
household’s other basic needs and a further 50.6% said they were sometimes unable to meet these basic needs.
Over 40% of survey respondents identified that they had accessed housing support services for help with finding accommodation,
help with paying rent and/or rent arrears.
Respondents were also asked if they have moved house in the last five years: 40% had moved house. Clients were also asked how
many times they had moved in the last five years. This ranged from 0 times up to 30-40 times. Of those who stated they had
moved:
25.8% had moved once;
29% had moved twice;
23.2% had moved three times; and
20.7% had moved four or more times.
Of those respondents who had moved house in the last five years, 53.1% indicated that at least one of these moves had been as a
result of being unable to meet their housing costs.
