Survey respondents were asked to estimate their total family income. For consistency, this has been reported in terms of ‘weekly’
household income. Reported weekly household income by 2014 respondents was largely consistent with trends reported in 2010.
Almost half of the respondents reported that their average weekly household income was under $400 (44.4%). This is consistent
with 2010 where it was also 44% of respondents.
By comparison, according to the 2011 Census, the median weekly household income for residents living in the City of Whittlesea
was $1,275.29 Overall, 18.4% of households in the City of Whittlesea were categorised as low income households (earning less
than $600 per week) according to the 2011 Census.30 However, the 2014 Emergency Relief Survey identified that 76.7% of
emergency relief clients had an income of $600 per week or less available for their household.
