EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Brain Research Institute Monash Sunway (BRIMS)
celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2017. Over the years,
BRIMS has developed its research facilities for Bioimaging,
Drug discovery, Functional genomics, Neurochemistry
and iPS Cells to address issues related to addiction,
neurodegeneration, reproductive neuroendocrinology,
anxiety and depression. BRIMS has also contributed significantly to society and the
scientific community by organising technical workshops
with the industry on histopathology, genome editing, animal
care, behavioural study, bioimaging and stem cells. With
financial support from the International Brain Research
Organisation, BRIMS has organised many International
Neuroscience Symposiums and training courses.
Our research activities have been funded by national
bodies such as Agensi Inovasi Malaysia, MOSTI, MOHE,
as well as by international, campus and industry grants.
Over the last three years, we have signed MoUs with
prestigious national and international universities. Our
researchers have published more than 56 research articles
through national and international collaborations, and
received awards like the ITEX Gold Award for innovative
invention, MSPP Young Investigator Award and The Hind
Rattan Award for excellence in science. BRIMS is also engaged in educational programs: PhD,
Masters and Bachelors, Young Scholars Program and
Research Scholar Program. We have graduated 15 Higher
Degree students, 30 Young Scholars and 41 Research
Scholars. Some of our students have won awards at
conferences. In 2017, our BMedSc (Hons) student won the
Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) prize, awarded to
the highest achieving student across all cohorts in Clayton,
Australia and Malaysia campus. She ranked first place out
of 113 students who completed the course.
