RESEARCH FACILITIES Functional Genomics Platform Platform Leader: Dr Shogo Moriya Functional genomics is a field of molecular biology to study gene expressions including transcriptome, gene functions and interactions with other genes. For the functional genomics research, there are several important technologies to analyse gene and cellular/neuronal functions, such as transgenic animal creation, single-cell harvesting, transcriptome analysis and integration of transcriptome data with other data. These technologies require high levels of skills and know-how. Therefore, these technologies should be maintained in the platform and shared with researchers at Monash Malaysia. We plan to establish the Functional Genomics Platform focusing on the following in the next three years: • development of a next generation sequencer for transcriptome and epigenome analysis • establishment of methodology for integration of genome, transcriptome and epigenome • establishment of transgenic animal creation facility • establishment of single-cell harvesting system • establishment of gene knock-in/out/down methods • certification of the lab for analysis of clinical samples and toxicology testing for pharmaceutical industries Equipment DNA sequencer Microinjector 11 Real-time PCR
