The Benefits
of Exercising
Outdoors
Paul Waters of Balance Weight Loss
takes a close look at the research
that supports exercising outdoors
T
he sun hasn’t risen fully but its bright glow feels
warming on your skin. The dew on the grass glistens as it
reflects the early light, a thin layer of mist hovers above
as if by magic. The park is quiet, only the odd squirrel for
company and the sound of your breath as you run. You smile and
feel invigorated, alive and ready to face the day.
Outdoor exercise has boomed recently, with running and cycling
increasingly popular and bootcamps a fixture in most local parks.
Many say they prefer being active in the fresh air over a trip to the
gym, so why does science suggest that it’s such a great choice?
