Martin Skivington is a Senior Lecturer at Solent Southampton Uni, which runs a Level 4 Strength and Conditioning course. Are your EQA visits of value and, if so, why? It provides us with the opportunity to confirm that we are meeting the professional standards set out by REPs, plus our Health and Exercise Science students get the opportunity to meet someone from the endorsing organisation. Q Farnborough College offers, among other courses, a degree in Sports Science, graduates of which are approved by REPs for Level 2 Gym Instruction in year one and Level 3 Personal Trainer in year two. Are your EQA visits of value? Very much so. The team works extremely hard to ensure that we offer relevant, up-to-date programmes. Q How would you say an EQA visit benefits the learners? Often our learners will question assessment decisions, and meeting with the EQA provided them with assurance that the processes followed are correct Q QUESTIONS TRAIN EAT What benefit does an EQA visit bring to you? It confirms that a robust and transparent quality assurance process is in place to ensure that the expected standard of delivery and assessment is maintained. It’s important that educational establishments like ours, and training providers alike, maintain the integrity of the industry-recognised awards they offer. Q How would you say an EQA visit benefits the learners? As exercise professionals striving to achieve a high level award, our students were suitably impressed that their L4 Q and of a high quality. Our EQA also discussed the benefits of completing a qualification at a centre like ours, compared to a standalone provider, with regards to cost and quality assurance. How was your Assurer? I have known our EQA for a number of years and have always found her to be very supportive and helpful. She is always willing to take a phone call to tie up any loose ends and can often answer queries very quickly. Q WORK S&C award was being taken seriously, and that they were offered the opportunity to share and discuss their thoughts and opinions with the EQA on the day. How was your Assurer? She was professional, supportive, knowledgeable and helpful. Her background in higher education combined with extensive industry experience was invaluable.
