IB Further Mathematics
[CPHS only]
Prerequisite/Selection Process: IB Math 12 HL
Intended Audience: Grade 12 at CPHS
Credit: Two trimesters = 1.0 credit
Major Outcomes:
In IB Math HL, students study a variety of higher
level mathematical concepts. There are 4 op-
tions in which students study a topic in more
detail: Calculus, Statistics and Probability, Dis-
crete Mathematics, and Set, Groups, and Rela-
tions. The options unit that is done at Champlin
Park is the Calculus Option (which aligns with
AP Calculus BC). In Further Mathematics, stu-
dents complete the remaining 3 options plus 2
additional units of study. These topics include:
• Probability and Statistics
• Discrete Mathematics
• Set Theory
• Abstract Algebra
• Non-Euclidean Geometry
• Differential Equations and Linear Algebra
Projects, Activities, etc.: IB Math Internal
Assessment (Math Exploration paper)
Instructional Focus: Instruction presented in a
variety of ways, mainly through flipped class-
room (videos). Students will need to be self
motivated to learn material and come to class
with questions. Investigation of real life situa-
tions and application of math models.
