Reports and Studies 2014 Review: 1975 Environment of Kiawah Report | Page 7

Summary & Analysis of the 1975 Kiawah Environmental Report The 2012 report should be consulted for detailed information on the beach. The 2012 Beach Management plan mentions the instability of the beach at the eastern end of the island. Some significant scarping of the beach in that area occurred in the fall of 2013, and this bears watching. (See Kiawah Island Talk, Issue No. 236, December 2013/January 2014.) Recommendation for Potential Research Based on our reading of the 1975 report, and further information from 2006, the Environmental Science Committee would recommend continued periodic monitoring and study of the coastline, including the sand shoals east of Kiawah (which are the main source of sand for continued deposition along the Kiawah beaches).
