Only during Festival time can works of scale, from
artists at the height of their creativity, be presented in
our iconic venues: works that will go on to inspire the
local industry for years to come.
An explosion of contemporary ballet from three
leading artistic minds—Wayne McGregor, Olafur
Eliasson and Jamie xx—Tree of Codes was one
of the most technically complex productions we
had ever attempted, and achieved the highest
box office income of a single event in Melbourne
Festival’s 30+ year history.
Performed in Melbourne’s most stunning
venue, Arts Centre Melbourne’s State Theatre
fly system was supplemented with additional
motors to accommodate the complex set. Tree
of Codes introduced audiences to a whole new
aesthetic, and generated millions of impressions
through online advertising.
