Description :
The empty base of the monument to Antonio López hosted a temporary work of art by the French street artist James Colomina , who decided to install his piece “ Humanity ” in January 2022 , which allowed the people of Barcelona to contemplate how a young man and a red teddy bear embrace each other in opposition to slavery . The installation of this monument was a surprise protest action to mark the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Spain on 30 January 1837 .
