Description :
On 26 November 2021 the Cádiz City Council approved the change of nomenclature of Calle Ejército de África to Calle Modesta Calvo Rueda ( 1933 - 2011 ), a local midwife who attended thousands of births during her fifty-year career . This change of nomenclature was approved alongside 28 others , related to the will of the government of Cádiz to apply the “ Law of Historical and Democratic Memory ” ( 2007 ) favouring the elimination of the trace of names that were apologetic to the Franco dictatorship or the coup d ’ état of 1936 and to take advantage of the occasion to increase the presence of women in the city ’ s nomenclature .
