US Punk band, established in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1974. Pure Hell was the first all-Black punk/afropunk band. Released their only single 'These Boots Were Made for Walking'/'No Rules' in 1978. An album 'Noise Addiction' was recorded the same year - but not released until 2005

Thomas Jennings, born in 1791, is believed to have been the first Black inventor to receive a patent for an invention. He was 30 years old when he was granted a patent for a dry cleaning process. Jennings was a free tradesman and operated a dry cleaning business in New York City
