RULE 1-1
Relationship between the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations
These Medical Staff Rules and Regulations are intended to be consistent with and complement the Medical Staff Bylaws. In the event that any provision in these Rules and Regulations conflicts with any Medical Staff Bylaw, the Bylaw provision shall control. The most current versions of the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations are available electronically on the Renown Health Medical Staff Services website.
RULE 1-2
Definitions
Unless otherwise specified, the definitions of terms used in these Rules and Regulations are outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws or the Credentials Manual. The following definitions also apply:
Admitting Physician – The member who authorizes the admission order and who is responsible for the completion of the history and physical examination.
Attending Physician – The member who has oversight over the daily care of the patient.
Discharging Physician – The member who authorizes the discharge order and who is responsible for completion of the Discharge Summary.

Time Limits
Time limits referred to in these Rules and Regulations and related bylaws, policies and manuals are advisory only and are not mandatory, unless it is expressly stated.
RULE 1-4
Delegation of Functions
When a function is to be carried out by a Medical Staff Leader, a Medical Staff committee, or a member of Administration, the individual, or the committee through its chair, may delegate performance of the function to one or more designees. Any such designee must treat and maintain all credentialing, privileging, and peer review information in a strictly confidential manner and is bound by all other terms, conditions, and requirements of the Medical Staff Bylaws and related policies.
When a member of the Medical Staff is unavailable or unable to perform an assigned function, one or more of the Medical Staff Leaders may perform the function personally or delegate it to another appropriate individual.
