Accept transfers to their service / section OR assist in the decision to and arrangement for transfer in concurrence and collaboration with the Emergency Department or L & D physician, Hospitalist or Critical Care providers when the patient’ s condition so warrants and in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, Hospital transfer policies and procedures, and these Bylaws and Rules & Regulations.
Sections and Departments may develop internal policies guiding Emergency Department or L & D physician, Hospitalist or Critical Care providers to accept incoming transfers on their behalf, with the on-call provider evaluating the patient upon arrival to Renown Regional Medical Center. On-call providers must accept transfer calls within 15 minutes of notification from Renown Transfer and Operations Center( RTOC), if requested.
e. Respond to the Emergency Department in a timely manner, telephonically within 15 minutes. If requested, in-person responses are expected no later than 60 minutes after being contracted, or as agreed upon between Physicians / APPs based on specific patient condition.( As a designated Trauma Center, Medical Staff Members participating in the Trauma Service must abide by the requirements for designation( State) or verification( ACS), as delineated in Trauma Services policies.) f.
Members are expected to assume responsibility for a patient in a time frame appropriate for the patient’ s medical condition. If unable to do so, the Member must inform the ED of his or her back-up physician. If a Member does not have a back-up available, or the critical patient’ s stay in the ED is prolonged and / or necessary stabilizing treatment is delayed because of physician issues, the ED physician will notify the appropriate Department or Section Chief of the situation. The Department or Section Chief will be responsible for arranging appropriate and prompt care for the patient.
2. Responsibilities of Department and Section Chiefs. Department and Section Chiefs shall ensure that adequate coverage is provided in all cases when there are seven( 7) or more Members eligible for call in the department / section. When there are less than seven( 7) Members in the department / section, the Chair will submit a proposed call schedule to the MEC and Board.
