Seeking Medical Attention
If You Are 20 Weeks or Less
Go to the ER for any of these symptoms:
• Water breaking( even a small gush, before 37 weeks, as it may indicate a complication or preterm labor)
• Painful contractions( frequent or intense cramping, which could signal preterm labor before 37 weeks)
• Headache with vision changes
• Excessive bleeding
• Decreased fetal movement
• Abdominal trauma or car accident
• Severe or persistent abdominal pain( not related to contractions)
• Sudden or severe swelling in hands, face, or feet
• High fever( above 100.4 ° F / 38 ° C) that does not respond to medication
• Severe nausea or vomiting preventing you from keeping food or liquids down
• Chest pain or shortness of breath
• Heavy vaginal discharge or unusual odor
• Signs of a blood clot( redness, pain, or swelling in one leg)
• Severe itching, especially on palms or soles of feet
