6. D. LEAVES OF ABSENCE
This article only applies to leaves of absence pertaining to medical staff appointment and the exercise of clinical privileges. Leaves of absence pertaining to employment are governed by Renown employment policies.
6. D. 1. Initiation:
( a) Individuals who will be away from practice at the Hospital for sixty( 60) days or more are expected to notify the Chief of Staff and CMO / VPMA in writing. When possible, the notice should include the expected beginning and ending dates and the reasons for the leave.
( b) The Chief of Staff and CMO / VPMA, in consultation with the relevant department chair, will determine whether a request for a leave of absence will be granted. The granting of a leave of absence or reinstatement may be conditioned upon the individual’ s completion of all medical records. Notification of the leave of absence will be forwarded to the Credentials Committee, the MEC, and Board as an informational item.
( c) Members must report to the Chief of Staff and CMO / VPMA any time they are away from patient care responsibilities for longer than sixty( 60) days and the reason for such absence is related to their physical or mental health or otherwise to their ability to care for patients safely and competently( this reporting requirement does not apply to members taking maternity leaves for less than ninety( 90) days). Upon becoming aware of such circumstances, the Chief of Staff and / or CMO / VPMA may impose an automatic medical leave of absence. The member will be sent special notice that a medical leave has been imposed.
( d) Leaves of absence are matters of courtesy, not of right. If an individual has not demonstrated good cause for a leave, or where a request for extension is not granted, the determination will be final, with no recourse to a hearing and appeal.
( e) The duration of the leave may not exceed one( 1) year, except for military service.
6. D. 2. Duties of Member on Leave:
During a leave of absence, the member may not exercise any clinical privileges and will be excused from staff responsibilities( e. g., meeting attendance, committee service, emergency service call obligations) and may not exercise the prerogatives of membership.
