Contractors are responsible for maintaining safe work practices by using barricades, warning signs, fall protection systems, properly inspected ladders and scaffolds, and safe rigging and lifting procedures. Electrical work must be performed only by qualified personnel and in accordance with applicable codes and lockout / tagout requirements. All tools and equipment must be inspected before use, maintained in safe operating condition, and used only for their intended purpose. Construction activities must be planned and conducted to minimize impacts on patients, visitors, employees, and hospital operations. Special attention must be given to controlling noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and other environmental hazards. Contractors must minimize disruptions to occupied areas, use appropriate PPE, and implement controls necessary to protect patients, staff, visitors, contractors, and the environment.
Crane Operations: Any crane operating within the flight path of Renown Regional Medical Center( RRMC) must provide a minimum of 72 hours advance notification to allow coordination with Helicopter Emergency Medical Services( HEMS) and other aviation partners.
Storage and Maintenance of Compressed Gas Cylinder Safety Contractors must safely handle, store, transport, and use compressed gas cylinders to prevent injuries and property damage. Cylinders must be stored in designated areas, kept upright, secured against tipping, and equipped with valve protection caps when not in use. Personnel handling compressed gas cylinders must be properly trained and use approved cylinder carts or carriers for transport. Compressed gas cylinders must be clearly labeled with their contents, protected from damage, and never dropped, dragged, or lifted by valve caps. Empty cylinders must be properly identified, secured, and stored according to requirements. Cylinders transported by cranes must be placed in approved baskets or lifting devices, and slings or ropes may not be wrapped around cylinders for lifting. Special precautions apply in MRI areas, where only non-ferrous cylinders are permitted. Contractors are responsible for ensuring compressed gas cylinders are transported, stored, and used in accordance with all applicable safety regulations and industry’ s best practices.
Storage and Maintenance of Oxygen Cylinders Oxygen cylinders must be stored safely in well-ventilated areas, secured upright with chains, cables, or wire to prevent tipping. Oxygen cylinders must be separated from combustible gas cylinders and other combustible materials by at least 20 feet or protected by an approved fire-rated barrier. No more than 12 equivalent " E " cylinders may be stored in a single area. Full and empty cylinders must be stored separately, with empty cylinders clearly identified. Smoking and ignition sources are prohibited in cylinder storage areas. Cylinders must be properly secured during storage, transport, and maintenance activities, and rope shall not be used for securing cylinders. Before performing any maintenance, contractors must ensure all gas cylinders are properly secured and safe to handle.
Storage of Materials and Debris Removal Contractors may only store materials, equipment, and tools in areas approved by the Construction Project Manager. Materials must be stacked and secured safely to prevent shifting, rolling, or falling, and tools must be stored in locked, non-combustible containers or designated storage areas. Storage practices must maintain fire safety requirements, including keeping materials at least 18 inches below sprinkler heads and minimizing combustible materials in sensitive areas.
