Medical Gas and Vacuum Systems Medical gas and vacuum systems are critical utilities that support patient care and safety. Contractors are not permitted to operate, shut off, or isolate medical gas or vacuum system valves and must follow all applicable Lockout / Tagout( LOTO) procedures when working around these systems. Vacuum lines should always be treated as potentially contaminated with bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials. Contractors must follow their Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan and use appropriate precautions when working on or near vacuum systems. If medical gas is detected during or after a shutdown or maintenance activity, work must stop immediately and the issue must be reported to the appropriate Renown Health representative.
Light Ballasts and Fluorescent Lamp Safety Contractors removing fluorescent light fixtures must inspect ballasts to determine whether they contain polychlorinated biphenyls( PCBs). Any ballast suspected or confirmed to contain PCBs must be reported to the Construction Project Manager, who will coordinate proper disposal through facilities. PCB-containing ballasts are regulated waste and must not be disposed of in regular trash. Proper identification, handling, and disposal are required to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and prevent environmental contamination.
Penetration Sealing Contractors must restore ceiling tiles promptly after work is completed and no later than the end of the workday. Any penetrations through walls, floors, ceilings, cable trays, or ducts must be properly sealed using approved fire- and smoke-rated materials and sealants appropriate for the application and occupancy type. All contractors are required to comply to ensure life safety requirements are always maintained.
Prohibited Equipment To reduce fire and safety risks within Renown Health facilities, certain heating equipment is prohibited. Contractors may not use radiant heaters with exposed heating elements exceeding 212 ° F, open-flame heaters, or space heaters without an automatic tip-over safety switch. Only approved heating devices that meet Renown Health safety requirements may be used on-site.
Asbestos and Lead Before construction work begins, the Project Manager will identify any known asbestos-containing materials or lead-based paint hazards. An asbestos and lead survey must be completed, and written clearance must be obtained before construction activities can start. If suspected asbestos-containing material or lead-based paint is discovered during construction, work must stop immediately and remain suspended until the material has been evaluated and written clearance has been provided. Contractors must not disturb suspected asbestos or leadcontaining materials without proper authorization and approval.
