ROOM TO GROW
“
The best solution isn’ t simply about adding square footage. It’ s about adding the right space, in the right place.”
Need More Space? Should You Build Up or Build Out?
You love your neighbourhood. You know the best coffee spot, the neighbours feel like friends and the thought of packing up your entire life is less than appealing. There’ s just one problem: your home no longer has the space you need.
Before you start scrolling real estate listings, it may be worth looking at your current home a little differently. If more square footage is the goal, there are generally two directions to go: up or out.
When Building Up Makes Sense
A top-up adds another level to your home, making it an appealing option when yard space is limited or worth preserving. It can create room for additional bedrooms, bathrooms or more private living areas without increasing the home’ s footprint.
The catch? Your home’ s existing structure matters. Depending on how it was originally built, structural reinforcement may be required. Stairs also need to be factored into the floor plan, which can impact space on the existing level.
