THE A-FRAME, REIMAGINED
Five design lessons from a lakeside renovation that balances character, comfort and every square foot.
BEFORE
Some homes invite you to begin with a blank slate. An A-frame asks something different: how can you make its distinctive architecture work better without losing the character that makes it special?
This lakeside renovation by Tribelo Properties demonstrates how thoughtful updates can transform an older property while allowing its original personality and natural setting to remain part of the experience.
LET THE ROOFLINE LEAD
Rather than disguising the steeply pitched ceilings, the finished interior turns them into a defining feature. Natural wood draws attention to the roofline, adding warmth and emphasizing the home’ s unique shape. White horizontal wall treatments balance the richness of the wood and help the compact rooms feel brighter and more open.
USE CONTRAST WITH PURPOSE
A restrained palette keeps the different areas of the cottage visually connected, but contrast prevents the interior from feeling one-dimensional. In the kitchen, dark cabinetry grounds the light countertops, flooring and walls. The black spiral staircase creates a similar effect, introducing a strong architectural element against the softer wood and white finishes.
