SMALL HOME, BIG THINKING

Inside Bit & Bridle, Koru Homes shows how thoughtful details can make 900 square feet feel considered, comfortable and entirely its own.
At first glance, Bit & Bridle does not read like a secondary building tucked onto a larger property. The single-storey, 900-square-foot detached garden suite in Maple Ridge has the presence of a complete home, from its layered gabled roofline and deep covered patio to an interior where almost every inch appears to have a purpose.
That careful use of space earned Bit & Bridle recognition as a 2025 HAVAN Awards finalist for Best Small Scale Home.
A SMALL FOOTPRINT, WITHOUT A SMALL-HOME FEEL
One of the most successful aspects of the project is that the compact footprint never seems to dictate the character of the rooms.
Rather than breaking the interior into a series of small spaces, the main living areas feel connected and open. Warm wood-toned flooring runs through much of the home, creating visual continuity while softening the predominantly white palette.
Large windows bring in natural light and draw views toward the surrounding greenery, helping the interior feel connected to the property beyond its walls.
The result is a home that feels composed rather than compressed.
