This is where SFA Saniflo changes the conversation. With above-floor plumbing systems like SFA Saniflo’ s Saniaccess 3, homeowners aren’ t limited by existing pipe locations or gravity-fed drainage. Instead of tearing up floors or breaking through concrete, the system uses macerating technology to break down waste and pump it through small-diameter pipes, often as narrow as ¾ inch, directly into existing plumbing lines. This means a full bathroom, complete with a toilet, sink, and shower, can be added on a main floor, in a basement, or even in an addition with minimal disruption. Installations that would traditionally take several weeks can often be completed in a matter of days, significantly reducing labour, mess, and overall renovation costs.
When tradesman Shane Murphy purchased his 1970’ s bungalow in New Brunswick, he wanted to add a half bathroom to the home’ s existing layout. With nowhere to install one on the main floor, he decided to create a new bathroom in his basement.
Murphy chose the Saniaccess 3 macerating system which required no major plumbing work. The unit drains into an on-site septic system and pumps wastewater up to 15 feet vertically or 150 feet horizontally and can handle a toilet, sink, shower, or tub, making it suitable for a complete three-fixture bathroom.
Murphy’ s project demonstrates how above-floor plumbing technology can help homeowners unlock unused space without extensive demolition or costly excavation. While a full bathroom addition was the right solution for his needs, not every renovation requires a complete bathroom installation.
For more targeted upgrades, solutions like the Sanishower and Sanivite offer similar flexibility for gray water applications. Gray water refers to wastewater generated by fixtures such as sinks, showers, bathtubs, washing machines, and dishwashers, excluding water from toilets. These systems make it possible to add or relocate fixtures in spaces where traditional drainage would otherwise be difficult or expensive, helping homeowners create more functional living areas with minimal disruption.
SFA Saniflo’ s flexible, future-focused approach to renovation removes construction barriers and makes it easier to create safer, more accessible spaces. With the right design choices and technology behind the walls, homeowners can invest in spaces that evolve with their needs, today and tomorrow.
