AUTISM & NUTRITION

For Mary, founder of Mary’ s Holistic Wellness, nutrition is more than a profession.
It is personal.
Mary recalls her son experiencing challenges with short-term memory, communication and anxiety, along with frequent meltdowns. School brought additional difficulties with focus and learning, as well as bullying.
Like many parents, Mary wanted to understand what else she could do to support his overall health and well-being.
She began exploring nutrition and supplementation as one part of that larger picture. Mary describes it as a gradual journey, shaped by small adjustments, careful observations and progress over time.
As her family changed its approach to nutrition, Mary recalls noticing meaningful differences in her son. She says he appeared calmer, focusing became easier and he became increasingly able to learn and develop new skills.
Those observations were personal to Mary and her family. They could not predict what another child might experience, but they inspired her to learn more.
Today, Mary describes her son as an independent 21-year-old studying massage therapy. His journey remains the accomplishment she is proudest of and the reason autism nutrition has become such an important part of her work.
Registered Nutritional Health Specialist Professor of Nutrition • Published Author Autism Mom & Advocate
Wanting to better understand nutrition and how individual needs can differ, Mary pursued formal studies and became a Registered Nutritional Health Specialist.
She later began teaching nutrition and publishing in the field, bringing together her professional training and lived experience as the mother of an autistic child.
While Mary has supported clients with a range of nutritional concerns, she eventually recognized where her deepest passion lies.
It is with families like hers.
Today, Mary focuses on helping parents better understand how nutrition may fit into the broader picture of their child’ s health and nutritional well-being.
Her work considers concerns such as selective eating, limited food variety, possible nutritional gaps, digestive discomfort and stressful mealtimes.
Her perspective comes from both professional training and personal experience as a mother who has spent years asking many of the same questions.
