DESIGNED FOR THE WAY YOU LIVE

By putting function first, a Toronto renovation gave one family more room, more personality and a home designed around the way they live.
Anchored by a neighborhood they loved, but constrained by a footprint they’ d outgrown, the family knew a simple cosmetic refresh wouldn’ t suffice.
With only one bathroom, two daughters sharing a bedroom and a layout that never felt fully finished or personal, the home needed more than a cosmetic update. It needed to be reconsidered from the inside out.
Working alongside the architect and general contractor, block by block design helped take the house back to the studs and reconfigure the interior. The basement, which previously had a ceiling height of just over six feet, was excavated, and approximately 600 square feet were added at the rear of the house.
The expanded home now includes individual spaces for the daughters, spa-like bathrooms, a home gym and comfortable areas where the family can play games, watch movies and entertain.
Function guided every decision. A room could be beautiful, but if it did not support the family’ s everyday life, it was not the right solution.
That practical foundation gave the design team room to introduce plenty of personality. Mid-century influences mingle with contemporary details, warm wood and rich, saturated colour. A dark green, colour-drenched entry makes an immediate impression, while graphic tile, arched openings, double-height baseboards and carefully proportioned wall panelling bring character throughout the home.
